Flash Mob Fundraiser!

A very BIG thank you to all of the community members who participated in the flash mob fundraiser at the Roshek Building, coordinated by Body & Soul Wellness Center and Spa. We have created a fun video for those of you who missed it, or if you want to re-live the glory! Fun, creative events like this are what make our community a great place, and what the Dubuque Art Center is all about!

Check out the testimonials after the video to see what creativity can do for community.

Testimonials

I transferred to Dubuque to take another job within IBM this past
December and since have been looking for new, fun ways to meet people.
When I was engaged to participate in a flash mob, I knew there was no
way I could refuse. The practices were so energetic and positive,
just as our final performance in the Roshek Building. Not only was it
a fun way to spend a few evenings of my summer, but it was also
helping support Dubuque Arts Programs that have a huge impact on the
community. I started this experience thinking I just didn’t want to
be the guy on the AT&T commercial, but now I see I am more than that.
I am part of a rare breed in this world– a FLASH MOBBER!

Thanks so much for putting this together!!!

While I got involved because I think doing random stuff is really fun,
I’ve had more thoughts on it as we have gone. As someone who doesn’t
have $$ to take a dance class, or buy a membership to a gym, when I
think of the flash mob, I do think of the mission of Body and Soul. I
love that I have a chance to sweat alongside some young people who
also want to try something different. I like that the excitement is
just as cool as the physical work I put into learning the moves. I
love watching people move in sync, but still see their personality
come out. It is unlike dancing on a stage, where the dance is the
focus of expression. By being informal I think people get to be more
individual, but also clearly part of a group. I think it is great that
so many people from Dubuque are willing to give their time to simply
have a good time, move together, and even provide entertainment for
people who work at IBM, who I think often feel secluded because so
many of them come from other countries and are new to Dubuque. While,
this could either be another secret they aren’t in on, it can also be
used as an invitation to get involved with other things, like the
Dubuque Art Center and the opportunities they have for them and their
children to be part of the city. I am lucky to have the chance to do
this. It may be once in a lifetime. Thanks for organizing it!
